ARTIST STATEMENT AND PHILOSOPHY
Ranerrim is a visual artist based in Kuala Lumpur. Her works often depict philosophical concepts laced with tongue-in-cheek socio-political commentary. Inspired by mundane yet absurd day-to-day life, she is fascinated by how micro human experiences like the flowing of time, memories and humour can coalesce with macro social systems. Engaging with such themes, her works are experimental and conceptual in nature, ranging from dark-humoured messages juxtaposed with a colourful art style to multi-layered stories which are intended to put the viewer in a space to create their own thoughts, associations and endings.
Earlier in 2021, Ranerrim embarked on a curatorial project where she curated a virtual international art exhibition, titled "Am I Alone?". She worked with Indonesian and Japanese artists, as well as emerging Malaysian artists in the project.
Keen on experimenting, Ranerrim also takes on multiple art projects to push her creative boundaries including various charity work and collaborations. She is part of the Ipoh-based collective, Projek Rabak and is passionate about fostering a collaborative and community-driven ecosystem in Malaysia's art scene.
